Baton Rouge, LA – After a three hour show from the River Center in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nia Sanchez, the Miss Nevada contestant, was named Miss USA 2014. She is a 24 year-old from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Eight judges in the Wednesday preliminaries and eight more judges on the final night decided who would wear the crown and get the title for one year.
Miss Nevada has a fourth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, a Korean martial art. During her first press conference after being named Miss USA 2014, she posed for a few pictures in a stance depicting the posture that reflects the art.
She competed against 50 other ladies from every state in America, plus the District of Columbia. This was the 63rd Miss USA competition. The 1st runner-up was AudraMiss North Dakota who also got the most votes in the Twitter “Save the Queen” public voting feature.
Brady, Miss Connecticut, the 2013 pageant winner, ended her reign tonight. She hopes to go into a career in reporting.
The initial 20 finalists were announced as the show progressed. Later it was narrowed to fourteen and finally just to six. Miss Louisiana, loudly cheered by the home crowd, won 3rd runner-up.
Musical performing artists included, Florida Georgia Line, Camila, Nelly, Marc Broussard and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band Horns.
Special guests included billionaire Donald J. Trump and the head coach of the New Orlean Saints football team, Sean Payton.
The new Miss USA 2014 will now move to New York and start a life of touring a promotion with the Miss Universe organization which also owns the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA brands.
Also in attendance Sunday evening were virtually all of the Miss Teen USA contestants who will compete for their title in the Bahamas on August 2, 2014.
