Walmart Supercenter on Burbank & Bluebonnet Opens June 25th

Baton Rouge, LA – Around 300 people are now employed at the newest Walmart on the corner of Burbank Dr. and Bluebonnet Blvd. The grand opening specials “at this store only,” according to the postcard sent out to locals, are 3 for $9 on 12 can packs of Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, or Sprite. The advertisement also pictures a Visio 55″ LED Smart TV for $598.

The store was set to be built and the land was cleared in 2008. Because of the downturn in the U.S. economy, plans were put on hold.

Around the world, Walmart employs over 2 million associates. Fiscal year 2014 sales were reported at $473 billion in 27 countries with e-commerce websites in 10 countries. Currently Walmart operates 10,994 stores and boasts of upwards of 250 million customers visiting every single week.

Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart was known for his ability to give the customer what they wanted at an affordable price. Some of his well-known sayings include:

  • “High expectations are the key to everything.”
  • “There is only one boss – the customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.”
  • “Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves it’s amazing what they can accomplish.”

The weather forecast for Wednesday calls for mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning hours and throughout the afternoon.

The invitation from the Walmart Facebook page reads, “You’re invited! We want you to join us on June 25 at 7:30 a.m. for the grand-opening celebration of your new Baton Rouge Walmart Supercenter.”
