New Orleans, LA – The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) of New Orleans goal is to keep people moving around the City of New Orleans.
The oldest continuously operating street railway in the world began in 1835 transporting people down St. Charles Street from New Orleans to what was then a suburb called Carrollton, which in now part of the city.
The North Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue Streetcar Expansion Project is currently underway.
The North Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue Streetcar Expansion Project is part of the Regional Transit Authority’s French Quarter streetcar expansion project. The first phase of the program will include construction of streetcar track along 1.6 miles in the left travel lane adjacent to the neutral ground on both sides between Canal Street and Elysian Fields Avenue.
